Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein Receives Spanish Prime Minister to Participate in 34th Arab Summit in Baghdad

Baghdad, May 16, 2025– Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein, received the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Spain Mr. Pedro Sánchez, and his accompanying delegation, who arrived in Iraq to participate in the 34th session of the Arab Summit in Baghdad as a “Guest of Honor.”

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the distinguished bilateral relations between Iraq and Spain. Minister Hussein highlighted the deep historical and cultural ties between the two friendly nations and stressed the importance of expanding cooperation across various fields, as well he expressed Iraq’s willingness to strengthen its strategic partnership with Spain in light of regional and international developments, and he praised Spain’s supportive stances on Arab causes.

Minister Hussein also underscored the significance of Spain’s participation in the summit as a Guest of Honor, noting that its presence reinforces the principle of international multilateralism and promotes constructive dialogue between the Arab world and the European Union. As well it embodies Spain’s commitment to supporting security and stability in the region. 

On his part, Spanish Prime Minister Mr. Pedro Sánchez expressed his pleasure in attending this important event and commended Iraq’s efforts in hosting the summit amid major political and economic challenges, reaffirming Spain’s appreciation for Iraq’s key role in the region and voiced Madrid’s interest in deepening bilateral cooperation, including support for Iraq’s efforts in addressing humanitarian and development challenges.

The meeting was attended by Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Aluloom; Iraq’s Ambassador to Spain Mr. Saleh Al Tamimi; and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Iraq.
