Iraq Assumes Chairmanship of Preparatory Ministerial Meeting for Arab Summit… Fuad Hussein Calls for Arab Committee to Bridge Differences

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein officially assumed the chairmanship of the preparatory ministerial meeting of the Council of the League of Arab States, taking over from his Bahraini counterpart Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani. The meeting was held at the Government Palace in Baghdad.
In his opening remarks, Minister Hussein stated that the meeting is taking place during a critical time in the Arab world, calling for unity and collective action to address shared challenges. He reaffirmed Iraq’s steadfast position on the Palestinian cause, emphasizing it remains the central issue for the Arab nation, and reiterated Iraq’s support for the Palestinian people’s right to liberate their land and establish an independent state with Al Quds AlSharif as its capital.
Minister Hussein underlined the importance of allowing humanitarian aid into Palestine and reactivating international relief organizations. As well he commended the outcomes of the previous Arab Summit concerning Palestine, voicing Iraq’s support for Egypt’s initiative and the international conference held in Cairo to reconstruct Gaza.
Minister Hussein expressed Iraq’s support for efforts to achieve stability in Syria and for lifting the economic sanctions imposed on the country. He urged the international community to take responsibility in stopping Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, while also affirming Iraq’s solidarity with Lebanon and condemning repeated violations of its sovereignty.
Regarding Sudan, the Minister expressed Iraq’s full solidarity with the Sudanese people and support for the country’s unity and sovereignty. He reaffirmed Iraq’s support for the Libyan government’s efforts to preserve national unity, reject foreign interference, and ensure the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Libyan territory.
On the Yemeni crisis, Minister Hussein called for an end to the instability and commended Oman’s diplomatic efforts to reach a peace agreement, affirming Iraq’s support for these initiatives and highlighting the need to ensure safe navigation in the Red Sea.
Additionally the Minister reaffirmed Iraq’s support for Somalia’s government in its fight against terrorism and efforts to establish security. He emphasized that the accelerating political and security developments in the region require more dialogue, diplomatic solutions, and strengthened cooperation.
At the end of his speech, Minister Hussein proposed the formation of a high-level ministerial committee with open membership, including Iraq, Bahrain, the General Secretariat of the Arab League, and other willing member states. The goal of this committee would be to bridge differences and resolve disputes among Arab countries, underscoring that dialogue is the best path toward regional peace and stability.
