Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein Meets Somali Counterpart in Baghdad

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein, received Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia Mr. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, on the sidelines of ongoing preparations for the Arab Summit in Baghdad.

Minister Hussein welcomed his Somali counterpart, emphasizing the deep fraternal ties between Iraq and Somalia, and reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with brotherly nations. He highlighted the Iraqi government’s dedication in supporting Arab solidarity and enhancing political and diplomatic engagement with Arab League member states.

During the meeting, the two ministers discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the political, security, and economic areas. In addition they emphasized the importance of activating joint mechanisms to promote mutual interests and agreed on the need to convene the Iraqi-Somali Joint Committee soon, recognizing its vital role in advancing relations across various sectors.

The two sides also underscored the significance of holding the Arab Summit in Baghdad as an opportunity to reinforce joint Arab action and to reaffirm Iraq’s central role in supporting Arab causes. They stressed the importance of using the Summit to launch joint initiatives that address the political and economic challenges facing the region.

The talks also covered recent regional developments, particularly in Syria and Lebanon. Both ministers emphasized the importance of enhancing Arab coordination in addressing regional crises and the need for sustainable political solutions that preserve the stability, security, and territorial integrity of this countries. They reiterated the shared Iraqi-Somali stance in supporting dialogue as the primary means for resolving conflicts.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Abdisalam Abdi extended a formal invitation to Minister Fuad Hussein to visit Somalia, expressing confidence that such a visit would further strengthen bilateral relations and elevate them to greater levels of cooperation and coordination.
