Ministerial Meeting of Arab Development Summit Approves Draft Resolutions for Fifth Session in Baghdad under Iraq’s Chairmanship

Baghdad, May 13, 2025 – The preparatory ministerial meeting for the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit, chaired by the Republic of Iraq, concluded with the approval of draft resolutions concerning the agenda items of the Summit in its fifth session, scheduled to be held in Baghdad.

The approved drafts included a resolution on the Secretary-General’s report on joint Arab economic, social, and developmental work; a follow-up on the implementation of resolutions from the fourth summit held in Beirut; and a resolution concerning Mauritania’s initiative on the blue economy as a means to address food and energy challenges in the Arab world.

Other approved items include the Arab League Secretary-General’s “Artificial Intelligence Initiative,” the “Arab Economic Reform era for the Next Decade,” the establishment of a Council of Arab Ministers of Trade, and the Arab Food Security Strategy. 

Additionally, resolutions were adopted in support of the Arab initiative to enhance food security in grain production, development needs and infrastructure projects in the Republic of Yemen, developmental proposals from the Republic of Sudan, and efforts to support and shelter displaced Palestinian families from the ongoing war and counter forced displacement of the Palestinian people from their homeland.

The meeting also reviewed developments in the Greater Arab Free Trade Area, along with development initiatives submitted by the Republic of Iraq and other proposals related to regional development priorities.
