Economic and Social Council Approves Preparatory Recommendations for 5th Arab Development Summit, Chaired by Iraq

Baghdad, May 12, 2025 — The Economic and Social Council, at the senior officials’ level, approved, during its evening session the recommendations to be submitted to the preparatory ministerial meeting for the fifth Arab Development Summit (Economic and Social), scheduled for Tuesday, May 13, in Baghdad, in preparation for the Development Summit scheduled to be held on May 17.
The session, chaired by Iraq, witnessed extensive discussions before the recommendations were approved.
The Council appreciated the proposals of the Republic of Iraq, which reflected its commitment to supporting joint Arab economic and social action. It also tasked the General Secretariat with continuing to study the initiatives presented by Iraq in light of the criteria adopted, to be presented in future sessions of the Council. The Council also commended Iraq’s proposal on achieving Arab food security, considering it a significant step.
These meetings are of great importance in strengthening economic and social cooperation among Arab countries and supporting sustainable development paths in the region.
