Statement

The Foreign Ministry expresses the Republic of Iraq’s welcoming of the decision of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) to disband, end armed conflict, and lay down its arms. The Ministry consider this as a positive and important step that contributes to enhancing security and stability in Iraq and the region.

This announcement offers a real opportunity to further advance peace efforts and end the long-lasting conflicts that have cast a shadow over the peoples of the region for decades. Additionally, this development provides a normal entry point to reconsider the justifications that have long been used to justify the presence of foreign forces on Iraqi soil.

The Ministry affirms its support for all efforts aimed at consolidating peace and stability, and stresses the importance of addressing security challenges through dialogue and mutual understanding, in a manner that fulfills the aspirations of the peoples of the region for security and development.
