Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein Delivers Official Invitation to Amir of Qatar to Attend Arab Summit and Discusses Regional Developments with Qatari Prime Minister

Doha, May 5, 2025- Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met with Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Doha.
During the meeting, Minister Hussein handed over an official invitation from the President of the Republic of Iraq Dr. Abdullatif Jamal Rashid to His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to attend the Arab Summit scheduled to be held in Baghdad later this month, as well the Minister conveyed the greetings of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Iraq and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani to the Qatari leadership.
Minister Fuad Hussein highlighted the remarkable political and security stability in Iraq, and added that the upcoming summit in Baghdad will be a clear demonstration of the depth of Iraqi-Arab relations.
In addition, the Minister expressed the Iraqi government’s aspiration for effective participation from Arab countries, which will enhance joint Arab action in confronting regional and international challenges. On his part, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani expressed Qatar’s keenness to ensure the success of the Arab Summit in Baghdad, commending the efforts made by the Iraqi government in this regard and affirming his country’s continued support for enhancing stability in Iraq and the region.
The two ministers discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries across political, economic, and investment areas. Additionally, they discussed the ongoing preparations for the signing of several memorandums of understanding and bilateral agreements, reflecting the development of relations between Baghdad and Doha.
In the regional context, the meeting addressed the situation in Syria, as Minister Hussein expressed Iraq’s concern regarding the ongoing escalation there, warning of the possibility of the situation escalating into a wider regional conflict, calling for concerted international and regional efforts to contain the crisis and support peaceful solutions.
The two ministers discussed developments in the ongoing negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, expressing their hope that these negotiations will lead to positive outcomes that contribute to calming the situation and avoiding further tension in the region.
The two sides agreed to continue coordination and consultation on regional issues of mutual concern and to enhance joint diplomatic action to serve regional stability and promote the interests of both countries.
