Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Delivers Official Invitation from Iraq’s President to His Majesty Sultan of Oman to Attend Arab Summit in Baghdad

His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of the Sultanate of Oman received Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein, at Al Baraka Palace on Thursday, May 1, 2025. The Minister conveyed the greetings of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Iraq Dr. Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, and the Prime Minister Mr. Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani.
During the meeting, Minister Fuad Hussein handed over to His Majesty an official invitation from the President of Iraq to His Majesty the Sultan to attend the Arab Summit scheduled to be held in Baghdad on May 17, in addition the Minister affirmed Iraq’s full readiness to host the summit under critical regional conditions, and expressed his hope that this summit would contribute to strengthening Arab solidarity and joint action.
In addition the Minister appreciated His Majesty the Sultan’s invitation to the Iraqi Prime Minister to visit the Sultanate of Oman, affirming Iraq’s welcome of this initiative, which reflects the deep brotherly relations between the two countries. On his part, His Majesty the Sultan welcomed the Prime Minister’s visit, commending the stability in Iraq and stressing that this stability is an important incentive for enhancing cooperation and investment between the two countries.
The Minister affirmed that Iraq-Oman relations are characterized by solidity and mutual respect, pointing to the significant opportunities available for building strategic partnerships across various areas, especially the energy and oil sectors. As well the two sides also discussed a number of joint strategic projects, particularly in the oil sector, and the importance of revitalizing the tourism sector given its role in promoting cultural and societal rapprochement.
The Minister reviewed developments in Iraq, and referred to the security stability in Iraqi cities, as well the serious steps taken by the government to invest in associated and liquid gas, emphasizing that the Iraqi economy is witnessing continuous growth.
Additionally the Minister gave a detailed presentation on the “Development Road” as a major strategic project, explaining that Iraq hopes to sign several memorandums of understanding during the Prime Minister’s upcoming visit to Muscat.
The discussions addressed regional developments, particularly in Syria, with the Minister affirming the importance of Syria’s stability for Iraq and the region as a whole.
On his part, His Majesty the Sultan expressed his appreciation for Iraq’s efforts to promote stability and development, commending Iraq’s historical and pivotal role in the region and affirming the Sultanate’s openness to enhancing cooperation and convergence with Iraq across various areas, including joint investments,indicating the Sultanate of Oman’s keenness to bring the views of various parties in the region closer together.
At the end of the meeting, Minister Fuad Hussein extended his thanks and gratitude to His Majesty the Sultan for the warm welcome and for providing this generous opportunity to discuss issues of interest to both countries and the region.
The meeting was attended on the Omani side by Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Albusaidi, and Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidi, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court. On the Iraqi side, the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Sultanate of Oman Mr. Qais Al Amri, and the head of Media Department Mr. Fuad Ghazi.
