Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Meets his Omani Counterpart in Muscat to Discuss Arab Summit, Bilateral Relations and Regional Developments

On Thursday, 1 May 2025, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein, met with Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Albusaidi, at the headquarters of the Omani Foreign Ministry, in Muscat, as part of an official visit to boost bilateral relations and discuss the latest regional and international developments.

Minister Fuad Hussein expressed Iraq’s appreciation for the balanced positions adopted by the Sultanate of Oman on regional and international issues, in addition the Minister emphasized Baghdad’s keenness to expand bilateral cooperation between the two brotherly countries across various areas, especially the economic and investment areas, and the need for joint action to remove obstacles to strengthening this cooperation. The Minister affirmed Iraq’s readiness to host the upcoming Arab Summit this May, expressing his hope that this summit would lead to positive outcomes, which will contribute to strengthening joint Arab action and achieve stability and development in the region. As well as Minister Hussein reviewed the results of his recent visit to Washington DC, and referred to his meetings with U.S. officials which focused on bilateral cooperation between Iraq and the United States, and Washington’s role in supporting stability in Iraq and the region.

Additionally, the two sides exchanged views on the ongoing negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States, as the Omani Foreign Minister provided a briefing on the latest developments in these negotiations, stressing Oman’s continued efforts to create a constructive dialogue environment between the two sides.

On his part, the Minister commended the vital and balanced role of the Sultanate of Oman in facilitating talks between Tehran and Washington, affirming that reaching an agreement between the two parties would contribute to easing tensions and enhancing stability in the region.

The two sides also discussed the importance of continued political and diplomatic coordination between Baghdad and Muscat, in regional and international forums, enhancing security cooperation and cultural exchange, and activating joint follow-up mechanisms for agreements and memorandums of understanding between the two countries. 

The meeting was attended on the Iraqi side between the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Sultanate of Oman Mr. Qais Al Amri, and the head of Media Department Mr. Fuad Ghazi, and from the Omani side was attended by the head of Arab Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Faisal Al Marhoon.
