Deputy Prime Minister Fuad Hussein Delivers Official Invitation to Palestinian President to Attend Arab Summit in Baghdad

The President of the State of Palestine Mr. Mahmoud Abbas, received Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein, at his residence in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on 20 April 202, Minister Hussein handed over to the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, an official invitation from the President of the Republic of Iraq, Dr. Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, to participate in the Arab Summit scheduled to be held next month in Baghdad.

During the meeting, the Minister conveyed the greetings of the President and the Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, to President Mahmoud Abbas.

The meeting reviewed the preparations being made by the Iraqi government to host the summit, as the Minister affirmed Iraq’s commitment to making this summit “a platform for promoting Arab solidarity and confronting common challenges”. Minister Hussein highlighted the importance of the active participation of the State of Palestine in the summit, particularly with regard to the development summit that precedes the political summit, as well he emphasized that the Palestinian cause will remain present in Iraq’s conscience and its firm positions. 

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas briefed Minister Hussein on the results of his recent visit to the Syrian Arab Republic. The meeting also dealt with means of strengthening bilateral relations between Iraq and Palestine, with both sides agreeing to expand cooperation in the areas of development, relief, and political support, in light of the current challenges facing the region.

In a related context, the discussion touched on the humanitarian and security situation in the Gaza Strip, as Minister Fuad Hussein reiterated Iraq’s full solidarity with the Palestinian people.

On his part, President Mahmoud Abbas, appreciated Iraq’s supportive stance on Arab issues, expressing his gratitude for the generous invitation and emphasizing that Palestine will remain a top priority for joint Arab action.
