Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Receives Head of UNAMI Mission in Iraq

In the context of implementing the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2732 regarding the termination of UNAMI’s mandate, the Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Bilateral Relations Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Aluloom, received Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq and Head of UNAMI Dr. Mohamed Al Hassan, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad on 15 April 2025.
The meeting dealt with mechanisms for coordination and joint cooperation between UNAMI and the relevant Iraqi authorities, with the aim of ensuring a smooth and planned transition of the mission’s mandate during the next phase.
The Undersecretary expressed the Iraqi government’s full readiness to provide all necessary facilities in this regard, affirming Iraq’s commitment to continuing constructive cooperation with the United Nations and its various agencies, based on his deep belief in the pivotal role played by the international organization in promoting political stability and advancing economic development regionally and internationally.
On his part, Mr. Al Hassan expressed his appreciation for the remarkable progress across various areas in Iraq, commending the Iraqi government’s approach to enhancing internal stability and supporting regional cooperation process, as well he emphasized the importance of the ongoing partnership between Iraq and the United Nations in consolidating the foundations of security and sustainable development.
