Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Receives UK’s New Ambassador to Iraq

Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Bilateral Relations Mr. Mohammed Hussein Bahr Aluloom, received the newly appointed British Ambassador to Iraq Mr. Irfan Siddiq, on Sunday 13 April 2025, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Undersecretary welcomed the Ambassador, wishing him success in his diplomatic tenure, and affirmed Iraq’s keenness to strengthen and develop its bilateral relations with the United Kingdom across various areas, particularly political, economic, and cultural.

During the meeting, they discussed ways to expand the horizons of joint cooperation and reviewed key regional and international issues of mutual interest.

On his part, Ambassador Siddiq expressed his aspiration to work on deepening the bonds of cooperation between Baghdad and London, noting that the visit of the Iraqi Prime Minister to the United Kingdom marked a positive turning point in bilateral relations, resulting in the signing of several agreements and memorandums of understanding that will open new horizons for partnership between the two countries.

As well as the meeting discussed the latest developments in the region, particularly in Syria, Palestine, and Lebanon, as well as the ongoing negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States. In this context, Undersecretary Aluloom affirmed Iraq’s welcome and full support for the ongoing diplomatic efforts, affirming that these efforts represent an important step toward consolidating regional stability, in addition he expressed his hope that these negotiations would lead to positive outcomes that would contribute to de-escalating tensions.

On his part, the British Ambassador underlined the importance of achieving stability in the region, and affirmed that Iraq is a pivotal point in balancing regional security, and that the United Kingdom supports Iraqi efforts to enhance security and stability at the regional and international levels.
