Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Discusses with Environment Ministry Undersecretary Iraq’s Preparations for COP30 Climate Conference

The Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Multilateral Affairs and Legal Affairs Mr. Shorsh Khaled Saeed, received on 10 March 2025, at the Ministry’s headquarters, the Technical Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment Mr. Jassim Al Falahi, and his accompanying delegation, with the attendance of the head of the International Organizations and Conferences Department Dr. Fadhel Al Rahim.
The two sides discussed Iraq’s preparations to participate in 30th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30), scheduled to be held in Brazil at the end of this year, in addition to the preparatory meetings scheduled to be held in the middle of the year in Bonn, Germany.
The meeting stressed the importance of this session for Iraq as it coincides with its with its presidency of the negotiating groups of G-77 and China, which is the largest negotiating coalition in the United Nations, and includes 134 countries with diverse negotiating interests and orientations.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides underlined the need to continue joint coordination between the Foreign Ministry and Environment Ministry, to ensure the development of a diplomatic, political and technical position that serves Iraq’s interests and negotiating goals in this vital file.
