Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Discusses Cooperation in Mediation and Peacebuilding with CMI Representative

Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Bilateral Relations Mr. Mohammad Hussein Bahr Aluloom met with Ms. Saana Keskitalo, representative of the CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation, On Wednesday 26 February 2025 at the Iraqi Embassy in Helsinki.
During the meeting, they discussed prospects for cooperation between Iraq and the foundation in the fields of crisis management, international mediation, and peacebuilding, in addition to Iraq’s role in bringing points of views closer and enhancing stability in the region. The possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding between CMI and the Iraqi Foreign Service Institute was also discussed, aiming to develop training programs for Iraqi diplomats in the fields of mediation and conflict resolution.
On her part, Ms. Keskitalo welcomed the cooperation proposal, stressing the importance of exchanging experiences between the two sides, and the possibility of organizing specialized training courses for Iraqi diplomats in the fields of water diplomacy and peacebuilding.
This meeting comes within a series of meetings held by the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Bilateral Relations during his visit to Finland to conduct political consultations and enhance bilateral cooperation.
