Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Meets German Minister of State at Federal Foreign Office in Munich

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met with the German Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office Mr. Tobias Lindner, in Munich. During the meeting, the Minister of State affirmed that Germany is closely following the developments in Syria, while Minister Hussein pointed to Iraq’s concerns regarding the consequences of the changes in Syria, especially the presence of large numbers of terrorists near its borders. As well as the Minister indicated that Iraq is holding continuous consultations with regional and Western countries to urge them to adopt a position that supports the launch of a comprehensive political process in Syria, which ensures the participation of all parties and components.

The Minister underlined that Iraq’s position on the developments in Syria is clear, as it does not oppose the change that has occurred, but at the same time it does not support any party at the expense of another, affirming that the Syrian people alone are concerned with determining the form of government in their country.

In the same context, the Minister indicated that Iraq receives its citizens who belong to Da’esh and their families, and works to rehabilitate and integrate them into society. At the end of the meeting, Minister Fuad Hussein extended his thanks to Germany for its continued support for Iraq, its government, people and parliament, especially after the extension of the tasks of German forces in Iraq until 2026.
