Iraq and Iran Holds 7th Round of Political Consultations in Baghdad

The 7th round of political consultations between Iraq and Iran was held at the headquarters of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, in Baghdad on 16 February 2025. The Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Aluloom, headed the Iraqi side, and the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ambassador Dr. Majid Takht Ravanchi, on the Iranian side.
The two parties discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation across various areas, especially economic, trade and investment, within the framework of the agreements and memorandums of understanding signed between the two countries, stressing their commitment to developing these partnerships in a way that serves the common interests of the two peoples.
On the security and military front, the two sides agreed to activate the work of joint committees and enhance bilateral cooperation, with the aim of consolidating stability and security in the two countries and ensuring a more stable regional environment.
Undersecretary Bahr Aluloom underlined the importance of enhancing regional and international dialogue to support diplomatic efforts which are intended to find peaceful solutions to the crisis between Iran and the United States, stressing that reaching peaceful settlements would enhance the security and stability of the entire region.
These consultations come in the context of strengthening bilateral relations and continuing high-level meetings, which recently included visits by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, and the Speaker of Parliament Mahmoud Al Mashhadani to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
