Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Discusses with UN Special Envoy for Syria Developments in Syrian Crisis and its Repercussions on Iraq

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met with the UN Special Envoy for Syria Mr. Geir O. Pedersen, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany on 15 February 2025. During the meeting, the two sides discussed the latest developments in Syria, the progress of the political process there, and the efforts made to achieve stability.
The Minister expressed Iraq’s vision regarding the ongoing developments in Syria, stressing their direct repercussions on security and stability in Iraq and the region. As well Minister Hussein emphasized Iraq’s firm position towards the Syrian crisis, which is represented by respecting the will of the Syrian people and the necessity of ensuring the participation of all its spectrums in the political process without excluding or marginalizing any party.
In this context, the Minister renewed Iraq’s call to the international community to intensify efforts to support Syria in achieving stability and enhancing community security.
