Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Meets Ukrainian Counterpart on Sidelines of Munich Security Conference

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Mr. Andrii Sybiha on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany on 14 February 2025.
The meeting highlighted the historical ties between the two countries as Minister Hussein emphasized Iraq’s firm position in respecting the principles of the United Nations Charter, and the need to resolve disputes by peaceful means. As well the Minister underlined that Iraq maintains an equal distance from Russia and Ukraine, stressing the importance of reaching a peaceful settlement to the ongoing conflict between the two countries.
On his part, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister extended an official invitation to Minister Hussein to visit Ukraine, expressing his country’s willingness to open a consulate general in Erbil, In turn Minister Hussein welcomed this step and affirmed Iraq’s keenness to strengthen bilateral relations with Ukraine.
Additionally, Minister Fuad Hussein stressed the need to respect the sovereignty of states and not to interfere in their internal affairs. In the same context, the Ukrainian Minister called for developing cooperation between Iraq and Ukraine especially in the area of agricultural.
