Foreign Ministry Sponsors Coordination Meetings to Follow up on Halabja’s Missing Children File During Anfal Campaigns and Chemical Bombing

The Foreign Ministry sponsored the coordination meetings to follow up on the Halabja’s missing children file during Anfal Campaigns and chemical bombing that targeted Sulaymaniyah Governorate in 1988.
The conference, which lasted for two days, was chaired by the Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Multilateral and Legal Affairs Ambassador Shorsh Khalid Saeed, and the head of the Consular Department Ambassador Falah Abdul Hassan, with the attendance of Minister of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs in the Kurdistan Region Mr. Abdullah Haji Mahmoud, and his accompanying delegation. As well representatives of government institutions from the federal government, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Baghdad, Mr. Muhammad Sadiq, and the International Committee of the Red Cross representation in Baghdad, participated in the meetings.
The discussions focused on developing an action plan and a roadmap to reach the missing children during the events of 1988,
and working to return them to Iraq and reunite them with their families, in addition to reclaiming some of their rights, the attendees stressed the need to expedite finding appropriate solutions, in cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran, which played a positive role in this file along with international organizations with experience in this field.
At the end of the meetings, the Minister of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs and his accompanying delegation extended their thanks to the Iraqi Foreign Ministry for hosting this important humanitarian event and affirmed their readiness to cooperate with all parties in a way that serves the interests of Iraq and its people.
