Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Holds Virtual Meeting to support Iraq’s candidature for Human Rights Council for 2026-2028 term

The Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Multilateral and Legal Affairs Ambassador Shorsh Khalid Saeed, held a virtual meeting attended by the heads of political and multilateral departments at the Ministry’s headquarters, in addition to the heads of Iraqi diplomatic missions abroad, as part of supporting efforts to nominate Iraq for the Human Rights Council (HRC) for the 2026-2028 term and mobilizing international support.
The meeting discussed ways to enhance Iraq’s chances of winning a seat on the Council, by highlighting the importance of this membership on the international scene, and reviewing the achievements made by Iraq in the field of human rights, in addition to the goals it seeks to achieve during its potential term.
At the end of the meeting, the Undersecretary stressed the importance of intensifying diplomatic efforts to ensure Iraq’s success in the upcoming elections, stressing the pivotal role of diplomatic missions in communicating with member states to gain support and endorsement for this candidacy.
