Joint Statement at the Conclusion of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein Visit to Kingdom of Morocco

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Republic of Iraq Mr. Fuad Hussein, concluded an official visit to the Kingdom of Morocco, which came at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Mr. Nasser Bourita. The statement confirmed that the discussion were held in a fraternal atmosphere that reflects the depth of the historical relations between the two brotherly countries.

The two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation across various fields, especially economic, trade and investment, and agreed on the importance of holding the 11th meeting of the Iraqi-Moroccan Joint Committee in Baghdad as soon as possible, as well they affirmed the importance of upgrading the level of the committee chairmanship to foreign ministers of the two countries to enhance joint coordination. In addition they stressed the importance of strengthening collaboration between businessmen and the private sector in both countries and exploring available investment opportunities.

Iraq commended the reopening of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Baghdad, and considered it a positive step towards strengthening bilateral relations.

Additionally, Iraq affirmed its support for the unity of Moroccan territory and the policies of the Kingdom of Morocco in many areas.

On regional and international affairs, the two ministers stressed the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Arab countries, and rejected any interference in their internal affairs, while emphasizing on the importance of joint Arab action to enhance security and stability. The Moroccan Foreign Minister wished Iraq success in hosting the 34th Arab Summit in Baghdad in 2025, stressing the Kingdom of Morocco’s readiness to contribute effectively to the success of its work.

With regard to the Palestinian issue, the two sides affirmed their support for the Palestinian people rights, most notably the establishment of their independent state with Al Quds alsharif as its capital, and underlined the need to adhere to the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, and their rejection of any attempts to displace the people. Additionally, Iraq appreciated the the Kingdom of Morocco leading role in promoting sustainable development in Africa and consolidating continental partnerships.

On its part, the Kingdom of Morocco praised Iraq’s efforts in providing humanitarian and relief aid to the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples, its effective role in achieving stability in the region and a ceasefire, and its efforts to bring the views of the countries of the region closer together.

The Kingdom of Morocco also congratulated Iraq on its chairmanship of the Group of 77 and China, and the selection of Baghdad as the Arab Tourism Capital for 2025, stressing that this reflects Iraq’s active role in the region and the world. 

The visit concluded with an emphasis on the two countries’ commitment to enhancing joint cooperation in a way that serves mutual interests and contributes to achieving regional and international security and stability.
