Iraq’s Embassy in Rabat Hosts a Panel Discussion for Arab Diplomatic Corps with the Attendance of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister to Discuss Regional and International Developments

In connection with the visit of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein to the Kingdom of Morocco, the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Rabat hosted on 6 February 2025 a panel discussion that gathered ambassadors of Arab countries and heads of Arab and Islamic organizations accredited to Morocco, as regional and international developments were discussed, in addition to the positive developments in Iraq.

The meeting started with welcoming remarks by the Chargé d’Affaires Dr. Bhutan Dizayee, who moderated the discussion and welcomed the attendees, stressing the importance of such meetings to strengthen dialogue and mutual understanding on issues of common concern. 

On his part, Minister Fuad Hussein delivered a speech in which he expressed his happiness with this meeting, stating the importance of exchanging views on the conditions in the region and the accelerating challenges it faces, whether on the social, economic or political levels. As well Minister Hussein affirmed the need for collective willingness to confront these challenges with effective cooperation mechanisms.

With regard to the Palestinian issue, the Minister underlined that it is going through a sensitive stage especially in light of the current circumstances that have further complicated the situation instead of finding solutions. As well the Minister affirmed that the current talk about displacement requires a unified Arab position, as some proposals may lead to serious repercussions on the stability of the region.

The Minister also touched on other challenges including regional tensions and their potential impacts, in addition to economic and environmental challenges, especially climate change and over reliance on oil as a major economic source, and affirmed the need to enhance joint action to confront these challenges in a strategic and sustainable manner.

Regarding the internal condition  in Iraq, Minister Fuad Hussein reviewed the democratic developments witnessed in the country, underlining that there is no alternative to the democratic approach in Iraq, and confirming that Baghdad is preparing to host the Arab Summit during the current year, which reflects Iraq’s pivotal role in the region.

Concerning the relations with the United States of America, the Minister outlined that these relations are of a strategic and historical nature, referring to the strategic framework agreement between the two countries which establishes for ongoing cooperation, expressing his hope to strengthen this relations in a way that serves common interests.

With regards to the condition in Syria, the Minister emphasized that Iraq interacts and communicates constantly with the Syrian side, but at the same time expresses its concern regarding the presence of Da’esh remnants on the Iraqi-Syrian border. He also stressed that Iraq respects the choices of the Syrian people and supports any efforts intended at achieve stability in the country. 

The meeting ended with an exchange of views and opinions with the ambassadors on the main political and economic developments in the region, the challenges it faces, and ways to enhance joint cooperation to confront them.
