Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Meets Moroccan Speaker of House of Representatives in Rabat to Discuss Enhancing Bilateral and Parliamentary Collaboration

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein, met with the Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives Mr. Rachid Talbi El Alami, at the Council’s headquarters in Rabat, on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
The two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between Iraq and Morocco, especially at the governmental and parliamentary levels, in addition to discussing regional and international developments of common concern.
During the meeting, the Minister stressed Iraq’s aspiration to develop cooperation between the two countries across various areas especially the economic and commercial fields, adding that Iraq is going through a phase that focuses on providing services and enhancing development, in light of the security stability it is witnessing.
As well the Minister underlined the importance of exchanging parliamentary visits and expertise, and enhancing dialogue between legislative institutions in both countries, as it plays a fundamental role in consolidating bilateral relations.
In speaking of the economic and tourism sectors, the Minister stated that Iraq annually attracts between 8 and 10 million visitors as part of religious visits, which reflects the great opportunities that can be invested in this sector, affirming the importance of enhancing cooperation in the fields of investment, infrastructure and religious tourism.
Minister Fuad Hussein commended the opening of the Moroccan embassy in Baghdad, considering that it reflects the willingness of the two countries to strengthen diplomatic relations and joint cooperation.
With regard to regional developments, the Minister reiterated Iraq’s rejection of any calls intend to displace the residents of Gaza, warning of the disastrous repercussions that may result from such proposals.
As for the situation in Syria, the Minister added that the stability of the security situation there reflects positively on Iraq, while the continued tension negatively impacts the entire region. Additionally, tMinister Hussein stressed Iraq’s respect for the Syrian will, expressing his hope that the new Syrian administration will understand the importance of diversity within Syrian society.
On his part, the Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives Mr. Rachid Talbi Alami, affirmed the Moroccan Parliament’s readiness to enhance cooperation with Iraq in various fields, stressing the importance of developing parliamentary relations through the exchange of expertise and joint coordination on issues of common concern.
In addition he noted the role of parliaments in strengthening bilateral relations, emphasizing the importance of enhancing legislative cooperation between the two sides to serve the common interests of the two countries and brotherly peoples.
