Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Ministerial Council for Economy Meets Moroccan Minister of Economy and Finance in Rabat to Strengthen Economic and Investment Cooperation

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Ministerial Council for Economy Mr. Fuad Hussein, met with the Minister of Economy and Finance of the Kingdom of Morocco Ms. Nadia Fettah, in Rabat, on 6 February 2025, to discuss means of enhancing economic and investment cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, the Minister affirmed the importance of advancing economic and investment ties between Iraq and Morocco, and indicated the need to develop an integrated strategy and solid foundations to achieve this goal. As well Minister Hussein underlined the that broad opportunities for cooperation between the two countries exist, reviewing Iraq’s future economic plans especially in the gas investment sector, as self-sufficiency in this field is expected to be achieved by 2028-2029.
Additionally, the Minister touched on Iraq’s plans in the fields of banking, finance, industry and tourism, commending Morocco’s experience in the field of renewable energy, and emphasized the importance of enhancing joint cooperation in this sector due to its positive impact on the Iraqi economy.
In addition Minister Hussein referred to a group of drafts of memorandums of understanding that will contribute to establishing joint work mechanisms between both countries, stressing the importance of setting a date for the convening of the Iraqi-Moroccan Joint Committee, and organizing a forum for businessmen in Baghdad to enhance the partnership between the private sectors in the two countries.
On her part, the Moroccan Minister congratulated the Minister on the national strategy adopted by Iraq, and commended the comprehensive action plan being implemented, as well Minister Nadia Fettah reviewed the areas of cooperation and economic sectors that can be developed in the future, and affirmed the importance of establishing effective mechanisms to enhance economic and investment collaboration between the two countries.
At the end of the meeting, the Iraqi Foreign Minister extended an invitation to the Moroccan Minister of Economy and Finance to visit Baghdad, to continue discussions and strengthen bilateral relations between Iraq and Morocco.
