Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Discusses Enhancing Joint Cooperation with Spanish Ambassador

Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Bilateral Relations Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Aluloom, received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Iraq Ms. Alicia del Pulgar, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries, with a focus on following up on the results of the Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, visit to Spain at the end of last year.
The discussions also addressed the importance of enhancing economic cooperation and trade exchange, in addition to preparing for the next round of political consultations between the two countries. The areas of scientific and cultural exchange were also discussed, as well as activating the memorandum of understanding on training diplomatic staffs and enhancing cooperation between the Spanish Diplomatic Academy and the Iraqi Foreign Service Institute.
The Undersecretary affirmed the need to expand cooperation in vital sectors, emphasizing the role that Spain can play in supporting Iraq’s efforts to rebuild the infrastructure, especially in the railway sector and the project of the Development Road. In addition, Ambassador Bahr Aluloom called for lifting travel warnings to Iraq and resuming direct flights, which would contribute to strengthening bilateral relations.
At the end of the meeting, Undersecretary Bahr Aluloom expressed his appreciation for the productive cooperation between Iraq and Spain, commending the partnership between the two countries in their joint presidency of the Group of Friends of Victims of Terrorism at the United Nations, and stressing his aspiration to strengthen bilateral relations and achieve further progress during the next stage. On her part, the Spanish Ambassador stressed her country’s keenness to enhance joint cooperation across various areas, to serve the interests of the two friendly countries.
