Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Receives Minister of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs in Kurdistan Region

The Undersecretary of Foreign Ministry for Bilateral Relations Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Aluloom, received the Minister of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs in the Kurdistan Region Mr. Abdullah Haji Mahmoud at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the mechanisms of cooperation between the Ministry of Martyrs and Anfal and the Foreign Ministry, regarding following up on the fate of a number of Iraqi citizens from Sulaymaniyah city who left for Iran during the Anfal campaigns and chemical bombardment by the former regime in the eighties of the last century.

Minister Mahmoud indicated that a number of Kurdish citizens lost their relatives during those military operations, noting that the Ministry of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs seeks to determine the identities of these citizens and return them to their families who are still searching for them, stressing on the importance of this file as a humanitarian issue.

On his part, Undersecretary Bahr Aluloom confirmed the Ministry’s readiness to provide support by communicating with the Iranian side through official diplomatic channels to address this file, stressing that the effects of the crimes of the former regime still cast their shadows on Iraqi society, and that the Ministry is committed to making every possible effort to resolve such issues. At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs extended his thanks to the Undersecretary of the Ministry for receiving him and his readiness to cooperate in the interest of Iraq.
