Iraq’s Ambassador to Belgium Participates in Meeting of Delegation for Relations with Iraq in European Parliament

The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Belgium, Ahmed Tahseen Berwari, participated in the meeting of the Delegation for Relations with Iraq in the European Parliament, which was held in Strasbourg in conjunction with the plenary session of the European Parliament.
The Chair of the Delegation on Relations with Iraq in the European Parliament Mr. Ioan-Rareş Bogdan, underlined the need to strengthening bilateral relations between Iraq and the European Union across various areas, describing Iraq as a strategic partner of the European Union, expressing his aspiration to develop parliamentary relations between the two sides through the holding of the eighth parliamentary meeting in Brussels during the current year. As well Mr. Bogdan commended the vital role played by Iraq in easing tensions in the Middle East, stressing the continued support of the European Union for Iraq across various areas.
On his part, Ambassador Berwari thanked the Chair and members of the parliamentary delegation, and the European Union for its continued support for Iraq politically and economically, additionally he expressed his hope that the European Union would play a pivotal role in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East.
The Ambassador indicated the importance of enhancing cooperation between the Iraqi Council of Representatives and the European Parliament, proposing the establishment of a parliamentary friendship committee between the two sides, based on Article (113) of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Iraq and the European Union. During the meeting, the Ambassador also provided a briefing on the positive developments witnessed in Iraq, including the population census, the Kurdistan Region elections, and the Development Road Project. He stressed the importance of the upcoming legislative elections scheduled to be held this year, calling for continued European Union support for Iraq in all areas.
