Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Meets Swiss Foreign Minister in Davos to Discuss Economic Cooperation and Bilateral Relations

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met with Swiss Foreign Minister MrIgnazio Cassis, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. The two ministers discussed bilateral relations between Iraq and Switzerland and ways to develop them, with a focus on enhancing economic cooperation to serve the common interests of the two countries.

As well they touched on the latest political developments in the Middle East, highlighting the political developments in Syria. Minister Hussein added that the stability of the security situation in Syria is a vital factor for regional security, pointing to the close connection between Syria’s security and the stability of the region as a whole. Additionally, the Minister stressed the need to adopt dialogue as a basic way to ease tensions and achieve regional peace.

In the context of enhancing bilateral cooperation, Minister Fuad Hussein called on Swiss companies to participate actively in the reconstruction efforts in Iraq, reviewing the great opportunities made available by the improved security situation in the country, the Minister extended his thanks to the Swiss government for reopening its embassy in Baghdad, noting the need of holding an official celebration on this occasion during the Swiss Minister’s upcoming visit to Iraq, considering this visit an important opportunity to directly view the security and political stability in Iraq, which opens new horizons for enhancing joint cooperation across various areas.
