Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Meets Turkish Ambassador to Iraq

The Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Bilateral Relations Mr. Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al Uloom, received the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey Mr. Anil Bora Inan, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad, on 20 January 2025.
The two sides highlighted the importance of bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Iraq and Turkey, and discussed issues of common concern. As well they touched on the developments in Syria and the change that has occurred there, underlining the need to give space for all components of the Syrian people to be part of the Syrian arena, with all its spectra and trends, away from exclusion and marginalization. They emphasized the need to exert more efforts to support regional and international endeavors to achieve political and societal stability for the Syrian people.
The Undersecretary outlined the Iraqi government keenness to preserve the unity of Syrian territories and maintain its independence and sovereignty. In addition he expressed his concern over the growing capabilities of Da’esh terrorist organization, in the same context, they discussed the issue of Al-Hol camp and the work aiming to close it, while emphasizing the importance of the countries to committing to withdrawing their citizens from the camps.
On his part, the Turkish Ambassador affirmed the strength of the relationship between the two countries, and explained the efforts of his government and its partners in the region to support Syria, indicating the need of providing support for the success of the National Conference for Syrian Dialogue. At the end of the meeting, Undersecretary Bahr Al Uloom underlined the importance of achieving more cooperation between Iraq and Turkey to enhance security and stability for the peoples and countries of the region, and to defeat terrorism in all its forms.
