Undersecretary for Political Planning Speaks of Priorities for Foreign Ministry in a Panel Discussion at Al Rafidain Center for Dialogue

Ambassador Dr. Hisham Al Alawi, Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Planning participated on January 18, 2025, in a panel discussion held at Al Rafidain Center for Dialogue, in the holy city of Al Najaf, under the title “Priorities of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry in a Changing Regional and International Environment”, upon an invitation extended by the center’s administration.
During the panel discussion which was attended by a large number of diplomats, academics, researchers and media professionals, Undersecretary Al Alawi indicated the essential role of the Foreign Ministry in formulating and implementing Iraq’s foreign policy, the important and critical stages it went through, and the efforts made to restore the ministry’s vital and effective role in the international and regional community after 2003. Ambassador Al Alawi pointed out to the importance of restoring Iraq’s international status and ending its previous isolation, and its role as a key regional player in the region.
The Undersecretary also discussed regional developments and the government’s strategy for dealing with scenarios of the transitional situation in Syria, touching on the situation of neighboring countries, especially Palestine and Lebanon, and Iraq’s effective role in stopping the bloodshed and ending the criminal aggression carried out by the Zionist entity after the events of October 7, 2023, and committing human massacres against our Palestinian and Lebanese people. He also referred to the government’s strategy for the next stage, and how to work with the next U.S. administration.
The discussion witnessed interventions and inquiries from the attendees, where the Underscretary answered the questions, and an interactive discussion took place on the topic.
At the end of the discussion, the center held a press conference in which it hosted the Undersecretary attended by a number of representatives of Iraqi outlets and several media professionals in the governorate.
