Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations Discusses Strengthening Cooperation with Ambassador of NATO Mission Iraq

The Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Bilateral Relations, Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al Uloom, received at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad, the Ambassador of the NATO Mission Iraq Ms. Juliette Gundy, and her accompanying delegation.
The Undersecretary started the meeting by commending the distinguished relations between Iraq and NATO, and appreciating the prominent role played by the NATO Mission Iraq, in the fields of consulting and training, as well he stressed the Iraqi government’s keenness to enhance cooperation with the mission and organize its framework during the next stage, in a manner that reflects the strategic nature of this relationship.
The meeting discussed the priorities of future cooperation, which include developing Iraqi security institutions, supporting the Military Industrialization Authority through the transfer of advanced technology, and increasing specialized training programs, especially in the fields of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. The Undersecretary also expressed his aspiration to set a date for holding the second high-level dialogue for partnership between Iraq and NATO, with the aim of following up on the results of the first dialogue held in Brussels last year, affirming the importance of addressing the issues of travel warnings to Iraq, and calling on European countries to re-evaluate those warnings.
On her part, Ms. Gundy expressed her appreciation for the support provided by Iraq to the NATO mission, and underlined the alliance’s keenness to enhance cooperation with Iraq in the areas of consulting and training. At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed upon a set of practical steps that aim to enhance the partnership between Iraq and NATO in a way that serves common interests.
