Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Affirms the Role of the Cultural Center in London in Enhancing Iraq’s Cultural Importance Internationally

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein, inaugurated the Iraqi Cultural Center in the British capital, London, with the attendance of the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Dr. Ahmed Fakak Al-Badrani, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom, Mr. Mohammed Jaafar Al-Sadr, during his recent visit to London.
The Minister gave a speech on behalf of the Prime Minister, in which he affirmed that the opening of the center is an important step to invest in Iraq’s cultural legacy, and activate the role of Iraqi intellectuals, elites and artists abroad whom represent Iraq’s soft power. The Minister indicated that this center contributes to enhancing Iraq’s cultural importance on the international scene, a goal that the Iraqi government is keen to achieve. As well Minister Hussien commended the role played by the Iraqi Embassy in supporting Iraqi intellectuals and creators, stressing that the center will be a home for the Iraqi community in the United Kingdom, and a light that reflects Iraq’s thought and culture in the heart of London.
The Iraqi Cultural Centre in London is the first of its kind outside Iraq, occupying a historic building purchased in 1932, making it the first property owned by the Kingdom of Iraq in the United Kingdom. The opening of the center came in response to the initiative of the Iraqi Embassy in London, which presented a comprehensive vision and programme for its reopening, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the Iraqi cultural presence alongside the diplomatic presence. This initiative received great support from the Prime Minister and the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, reflecting the government’s interest in strengthening Iraq’s cultural presence at the international level.
