Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein Meets Under Secretary of Defense Ms. Sasha Baker at Pentagon in Washington DC

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, met with the US Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Ms. Sasha Baker at the Pentagon on March 26.

During the meeting they reviewed the Higher Military Committee work, as Minister Hussein expressed that Iraq’s government is looking forward to the outcomes of the committee’s meetings, stressing the government’s keenness to advance bilateral relations in various economic, commercial, and security fields, as well as its seeking a bilateral partnership with the United States and the rest of the allies.

Minister Hussein also touched on the future of the global coalition’s presence in Iraq, and the United States’ vision on the matter of scheduling the withdrawal of global coalition forces from Iraq.

The meeting also reviewed the security situation in the region, especially the ongoing war on the Gaza Strip and the necessity of putting an end to the ongoing violence and the related loss of life, as well as endangering the lives of civilians in Gaza, and the difficult humanitarian conditions there for its impact on security and political stability in the region.

On her part Ms. Baker confirmed the convergence of the American and Iraqi vision within the context of bilateral relations, and praised the efforts of the Iraqi government to achieve security stability, indicating that the United States looks forward to the outcomes of the Higher Military Committee meetings, stressing her government’s commitment to assist and support the Iraqi security forces to defeat Daesh terrorist groups.

The meeting was attended by His Excellency Ambassador Nazar Al Khirullah, in addition to the Iraqi delegation accompanying His Excellency the Minister, the US Assistant Secretary of Defense Celeste Wallander, and her assistant Ambassador Daniel Shapiro.
