Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Receives Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Spain

 
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Spain Jose Manuel Albares Bueno on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad.

During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations and ways of strengthen them to serves the interests of the two friendly peoples. In addition to calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and providing humanitarian aid to the people of the Strip.

Minister Hussein highlighted the historical relations between the two countries and expressed his appreciation to the Kingdom of Spain for supporting the democratic system in Iraq after 2003, praising its participation in the Global Coalition Against Daesh and during the liberation operations since 2014 until now, inviting the Spanish companies and capitals to invest in Iraq and rebuild the infrastructure, contribute to enhancing the higher education and cultural sector by granting fellowships, scholarships and cultural exchange programs between Iraqi and Spanish universities, as well as accelerating the opening of the Spanish Cervantes Institute branch in Baghdad, to provide courses to teach Spanish language for Iraqi students and cultural circles, as well activating the memorandum of understanding signed between the Iraqi Foreign Service Institute and the Diplomatic School of Spain in 2017.

On his part, the Spanish Foreign Minister stressed that his country believes in the unity and sovereignty of Iraq, noting that his visit aims to develop bilateral cooperation, reiterating his country’s support for the Iraqi government through its contribution as an active member of the NATO mission and its participation in the Global Coalition Against Daesh in Iraq.
