Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in Budapest Meets State Secretary for the Aid of Christians and the Hungary Helps Programme

Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in Budapest, Mr Ali Hadi Al-Bayati, has met Mr Tristan Azbej, the State Secretary for the Aid of Christians and the Hungary Helps Programme, at the State Secretariat for the Aid of Christians.

At the beginning of the meeting, the ambassador thanked the Minister of State for the humanitarian aid provided to Iraqi Christians and the effective role of the programme in building and renovating churches in northern Iraq. The ambassador also commended the efforts of the Hungarian government to support the Iraqi armed forces against ISIS.

On his part, the Minister of State for the Aid of Christians touched upon the situation in Iraq and Syria and the persecution and injustice that each of the two peoples of different sects had suffered by ISIS. He also commended the embassy’s cooperation in facilitating the granting of visas to Iraq during the visit of His Holiness Pope Francis.

In conclusion, the Ambassador thanked the Minister of State for the warm reception and hospitality and for allocating study seats to Iraqi Christians in a number of Hungarian universities. The Ambassador invited the Minister to visit Iraq.
