Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Iraq in Brussels Participates in the Regular Meeting of the Council of Ambassadors of the Arab League in Brussels

Chargé d’Affairs of the Republic of Iraq in Brussels, Plenipotentiary Minister Dr Fadhel al-Rhyem, has participated in the meeting of the Council of Ambassadors and Heads of Arab Missions accredited to the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union, which was held virtually, under the chairmanship of the periodic president of the Council, the Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Ms Saja Al-Majali.

During the meeting, they discussed the latest political developments on the European and Belgian arenas related to Arab issues, and the latest developments on the Palestinian cause.

They also discussed the outcomes of the meeting of the twenty-sixth session of the joint council between the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the European Union held in Brussels on February 21, 2022, as they affirmed that the final statement issued by the session includes many issues related to the situation in Syria, Yemen, Lebanon and Libya, as well as emphasizing the importance of supporting the Republic of Iraq to achieve political and economic stability, reconstruction and the complete elimination of the remnants of terrorist Daesh. They have agreed to form a select committee of ambassadors from Arab countries to support the Palestinian Authority’s efforts to reach an agreement under which the European Union should support the institutions of the Palestinian Authority.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the ambassadors expressed their hope that a new date will be reached to hold a ministerial-level meeting between the European Union and the League of Arab States, instead of the meeting that was scheduled to be held in February 2022, which was postponed due to Covid 19.
