Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Iraq to Belgium Meets the Director of Planning and Management of Capacity of the European Commission and Commends the Efforts Made to Enhance Iraqi Security Institutions

The Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Iraq to Belgium, Minister Plenipotentiary Dr Fadel Al-Raheem, has received Director of Urban Planning and Capacity Management of the European Commission, Mr Kaoko Altouma and his accompanying delegation at the Mission’s headquarters in Brussels.

During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments for the work of the European Union Consultative Mission and ways to develop bilateral cooperation in the security field, as the Chargé d’Affaires affirmed the importance of continuing coordination between the two sides on the work programmes carried out by the European Union Mission in Baghdad and Erbil, expressing his welcome for the support provided by the European Union and its efforts to provide advice and enhance the Iraqi security institutions.

On his part, Kaoko gave a briefing of the achievements of the advisory mission in Iraq in 2020-2021, the most important of which is the preparation of workshops, training programmes and the provision of advice to the Iraqi security authorities in the field of combating terrorism, border management and preserving cultural heritage, affirming the European Union’s keenness to enhance the cooperation with Iraq in the security field.
