Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in Islamabad Meets the Pakistani Finance Minister
The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in Islamabad Mr Hamid Abbas Lafta has met the Pakistani Minister of Finance, Mr Shaukat Tarin in the presence of the Advisor to the Prime Minister of Pakistan for Religious Affairs, Sheikh Tahir Mahmoud Ashrafi.
During the meeting, the Ambassador affirmed that Iraq and Pakistan have brotherly relations based on solid grounds of common ties, pointing out that Iraq had been one of the first countries to recognize Pakistan calling for opening direct banking channels between Iraq and Pakistan through governmental and semi-governmental banks, to provide banking services between companies, in addition to opening letter of credit and transferring funds, as it is an important step to increase commercial and banking activity between the two countries.
On his part, the Pakistani Finance Minister, Mr Shaukat Tarin, has welcomed these proposals, expressing his support for them in the common interest of both sides.
