Permanent Representative of Republic of Iraq to UN Agencies in Rome heads Periodic Meeting of Near East Group at FAO

The Near East Regional Group to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) held a virtual meeting headed by Ambassador Safia Al-Suhail, Head of the Group and Permanent Representative of Iraq.

 At first, Her Excellency congratulated the FAO on behalf of the countries of the group on the success of the preparatory conference for the Food Systems Summit, which was held with wide participation and high-level international representation in the Italian capital, Rome, from 26 to 28 July 2021.

 The meeting agenda included hosting Monsignor Fernando Chica Arellano, the permanent observer of the Papal Chair to the FAO, who presented a set of visions related to voluntary guidelines on gender equality and women’s empowerment in the context of Food security and nutrition, which could form the nucleus of future initiatives and programs to be adopted by organizations in the future.

 The periodic meeting of the group also discussed the existing preparations for the regional meeting of the organization for 2022, which will be held in Baghdad in 2022.
