Iraq Becomes Member of Executive Council of Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons for the period 2022-2024

Iraq has officially obtained membership in the OPCW for the period 2022-2024, and the nomination will be ratified during the Conference of States Parties to the Organization which be held in The Hague in late next November.

The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in The Hague, represented by Ambassador Dr. Hisham Al-Alawi and the Embassy Team, made significant efforts during the meetings held by the Asian Group and the General Committee of the Organization in recent months to establish Iraq’s right to obtain this position again, after terminating its membership for the previous session in May of last year.

It should be noted that Iraq had also obtained the position of Vice-President of the Conference of States Parties to the OPCW in 2019 and 2020, which strengthened Iraq’s strong and effective role within the organization.
