Iraqi Consul General in Manchester Meets Mayor of the City
The Iraqi Consul General in Manchester, Dr. Ihsan Allawi, met with Councillor Mr. Tommy Judge, Manchester City Council’s Lord Mayor, on 15 April 2021.
At the outset of the meeting, Mr. Allawi extended his congratulations to Mr. Tommy Judge on the occasion of assuming his new duties, indicating the depth of the historical relations between the United Kingdom and Iraq, and discussed the role of the Iraqi community in Manchester, and the extent of their integration into British society through their participation in educational, health and commercial institutions.
Lord Mayor praised the extent of the interaction of the Iraqi community with the British community and the role of the Consulate General in Manchester in providing services and support to citizens, especially during the period of lockdown in the United Kingdom, and welcomed the invitation of the Consul General to visit the Iraqi Consulate General in the coming days after reducing health restrictions in the country.
They talked about the possibility of benefiting from the experience of the city of Manchester in various fields, including education, housing, health, and cultural exchange, through a twinning process with one or more Iraqi cities.
