Iraq Chairs the Asia Pacific Group
Iraq assumed the presidency of the Asia-Pacific Group for the month of December 2020, which is one of the five major geographical groups of the United Nations, which includes in its membership 55 countries, approximately (27.5%) of the entire membership of the United Nations.
Iraq will chair and organize group meetings, in addition to coordinating efforts among member states to present consensus and constructive positions for the group on issues discussed by the UN and its subsidiary bodies.
The permanent representative of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations, Ambassador Muhammad Bahr al-Uloom, affirmed that the role of Iraq within the group is important, effective and balanced which will enable Iraq to carry out its duties as the head of the group to work to enhance the capabilities of the member states, especially in light of the difficult circumstances the world is going through as a result of the negative impacts of the Corona virus pandemic.
