Foreign Minister: The security situation in Iraq is improving … and the Iraqi government is working on important files, including: Da’esh families, pockets of terrorism, and Al-Hol camp
Foreign Minister Mr. Fuad Hussein met with his Omani counterpart Mr. Badr Al-Busaidi, and the meeting emphasised the importance of advancing bilateral relations in a way that achieves the interests of both countries.
Minister Fuad Hussein expressed Iraq’s aspiration to activate the frameworks for cooperation with Oman in various fields in light of the distinguished relations between the two countries.
The Minister briefed his Omani counterpart on the latest developments in Iraq, including the security situation and explained that the security situation in Iraq is improving compared to the previous state and also touched on files, including: Da’esh families, pockets of terrorism, and Al-Hol camp.
Minister Fuad Hussein noted that the government is making great efforts to return the remaining displaced persons, and to create a safe environment for their return to their areas of residence.
On the political issue, the Minister stated that there is a government effort to prepare for early elections in the sixth month of next year, and addressed the Corona virus pandemic, its health and economic challenges, and the improvement of the global situation with the discovery of the vaccine which led to a recovery in oil prices.
The two sides also discussed regional security challenges and their implications on the situation in Iraq, and the Minister called for the need to adopt the principle of dialogue in resolving differences, in order to end crises in the region.
On his part, Mr. Badr Al-Busaidi, the Omani Foreign Minister confirmed that the stability of the security situation in the region is based on the existence of normal relations.
