Press Statement

Iraq highly values Japan’s supportive stances in various emergency condition and along the historical line of relations between Iraq and Japan. The most recent of which is the Japanese government’s decision to allocate $ 1.45 million through the International Committee of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to assist Iraq in confronting Coronavirus, and to provide (1.55) million dollars through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to support the humanitarian needs of the displaced Iraqis.
Iraq views this step as a sincere manifestation of the growing strategic partnership that brings the two countries together, as it represents a message of solidarity in light of the challenges and exceptional circumstances, including: the displacement of Iraqi families from a number of cities due to Da’esh terrorist gangs as well as support to counter the outbreak of the new Coronavirus pandemic.
We reiterate the appreciation for the financial support Japan has provided in meeting these challenges, and we affirm our adherence to comprehensive bilateral relations of cooperation in order to achieve the aspirations of our two friendly peoples.
