Ambassador of Republic of Iraq in Cairo Discusses with Envoy of Secretary-General of the League of Arab States for Humanitarian Affairs the Situation of Refugees in Arab Region

Dr. Ahmed Nayef Al-Dulaimi, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq in Cairo and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States met with Sheikha Hussa Al-Thani, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States for Humanitarian Affairs.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Al-Dulaimi briefed Sheikha Al-Thani on the most important achievements in providing support to the displaced in Iraq, pointing to the efforts exerted by the Iraqi government and the security forces in the field of defeating terrorism and the return of displaced people to their cities and the sacrifices which led to the elimination of Da’esh terrorist gangs and the prevention of their spread, and  puts the Arab League and the Arab countries in a humanitarian commitment to support Iraq in order to complete the return of the displaced to their cities and reconstruct the infrastructure in these areas.

Sheikha Hussa Al-Thani, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States for Humanitarian Affairs, appreciated the efforts exerted by the Iraqi Government to address terrorism and its efforts to restore stability and the reconstruction in the liberated areas.

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States for Humanitarian Affairs proposed convening a meeting under the auspices of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States at the level of permanent representatives of the Arab countries facing displacement and asylum, to include the Republic of Iraq, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Lebanese Republic, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and the leagues support for these countries.

It should be noted that Iraq has already succeeded in issuing resolution 8244 of the Council of the League of Arab States, which provides support of internally displaced persons in Arab countries and displaced Iraqis in particular.
