“Empowering Women: Iraqi Cultural Seminar in Washington Focuses on the Role of Civil Society Organizations”

The Iraqi Embassy in Washington organized a cultural seminar titled “Mechanisms for Empowering Women in Iraq and the Role of Civil Society Organizations,” attended by a group of Iraqi women in the United States, alongside embassy staff. The seminar began with a welcoming address from the embassy, reaffirming the Iraqi government’s commitment to women’s issues and encouraging the participants to share ideas for advancing the status of women in Iraq.

The seminar featured a video address by Dr. Shahbaa Al-Azzawi, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Women’s Affairs, who discussed the government’s efforts to improve the status of women and called on civil society organizations to collaborate in implementing programs aimed at supporting Iraqi women. Additionally, videos were presented, highlighting the work of civil society organizations in Iraq and their activities in supporting women.

The event concluded with a discussion led by Dr. Zainab Al-Suwaij, an Iraqi-American human rights activist, who spoke about the challenges facing Iraqi women and ways to address them in cooperation with relevant stakeholders. The participants expressed their admiration for the seminar and the embassy’s commitment to promoting awareness of women’s affairs in Iraq.
