Press Statement
With the continuation of the popular protests
calling for reform, and the issuance of statements by foreign countries and
international organisations, the Iraqi government affirms the respect of the
will of Iraqis to claim their rights guaranteed by the Iraqi Constitution in articles
38, 39 and 40, which prove the right of Iraqis to choose their government in
accordance with the contexts in force in the Iraqi democratic system and their
rights guaranteed in the Constitution for freedom of expression “without
prejudice to public order and morals”.
Commenting on the reactions of foreign parties regarding the
current situation in Iraq, the Iraqi government calls on all parties to abide
by the principle of respect for sovereignty and non-interference in Iraqi
internal affairs, and stresses the statement of the Marjia’ya on Friday, 1
November that confirms the respect for the will of Iraqis in determining the
political and administrative system of their country through the holding of a
referendum on the Constitution and the periodic elections of the Council of
Representatives, and stresses that the necessary reform is entrusted to the
choice of the Iraqi people in all their sects and colors from the whole of Iraq
, and not for any person, group, orientation, nor regional or international
party to confiscate the will of the Iraqis and impose their opinion on them. “
