Chargé d’Affairs meets with the Head of the Riksdag Research Service 

Chargé d’Affairs Mr. Pewan Zawitai welcomed Mr. Gunnar Fors, Head of the Riksdag Research Service, on Wednesday November 9th.

The meeting focused on prospects for cooperation between the Iraqi Parliamentary Research and Studies Department and its Swedish counterpart, as well as the enhancement of mutual parliamentary cooperation between the Parliaments of the two countries.

Mr. Zawitai shed light on the political process and democracy in Iraq as well as the formation of the new government. He also highlighted the importance of the valuable contribution of research to the quality of policy and decision making, expressing his willingness to initiate cooperation between Iraqi and Swedish institutes in this regard as well as establishing of an Iraqi-Swedish Parliamentary Friendship Committee.

For his part, Mr. Fors explained the nature of the Swedish Parliament Research Service’s mission as a part of the parliament’s administration, its work mechanisms and external relations.

Both sides exchanged views on how to establish communication and cooperation between the two research institutions.
