First session of the Bulgarian National Assembly

At the invitation of the Bulgarian Parliament, the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Bulgaria, H.E.Mrs. Lina Omar, attended the first session of the National Assembly (Parliament) on 10/19/2022.

The Bulgarian National Assembly opened its first session headed by the oldest member of Parliament, Mr. Vezhdi Rashidov, after the 240 members of Parliament were sworn in. GERB topped the seven winning parties in the last elections with 67 parliamentary seats.

It should be noted that Mr. Vezhdi Rashidov won the position of Speaker of the National Assembly after 139 MPs voted in favour, 73 MPs voted “against”, and 27 MPs abstained, after three days of continuous sessions, as many rounds of election were unconstitutional. conciliation.

It is worth noting that Mr. Vezhdi Rashidov, at the age of seventy-one years, announced in a short speech after winning the presidency of the Assembly that “he will sacrifice part of the remaining years of his life for the sake of the Bulgarian people, as it is not fair to joke with people for only three days to elect a president.” Parliament is not a satirical theater, but we are here to work and debate constructively and reach the right decision, so let us stop applauding each other, and start work, and I will listen to everyone without exception.
