Giving a lecture at the University of National and International Economy in Sofia



On May 11, 2022, the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Bulgaria, Mrs. Lina Omar, gave a lecture to students  of the Department of International Relations at the University of National and International Economy in Sofia.
The topic of the lecture was about Iraq, its history, civilization, and its important role in the Middle East region and the whole world.
Ambassador Lina Omar told spoke to the students about the specifics of the diplomatic profession and its goals.
The Ambassador started the lecture with an introduction about the history of Iraq, its borders, its political, geographical and regional importance, and its ancient civilization. The Ambassador spoke about diplomacy in general and Iraqi diplomacy in particular and its role in maintaining international peace and security, and implementing the objectives of the foreign policy of Iraq.The Ambassador stressed to the importance of the large public culture of the diplomat and the ability of developing Information on all levels.
 A short film was shown on the history of Iraq, the Babylon civilization, the visit of Pope Francis to Iraq in 2021, the Iraqi marshes and the Iraqi Kurdistan region, as well as showed the celebrations of the Kurdish people. The lecture also included an overview of the policy of openness to the new Iraq, security, tourism, Iraqi handicrafts and the hospitality of the Iraqi people towards the foreign tourists.
 Then a number of students asked questions about the history of Iraq, expressing their great admiration for the ruins of Babylon and the Marshes area, stating their desire to visit Iraq and to learn more about its civilization.
 The Bulgarian side, represented by the head of the International Relations Department, Ass. Prof. Plamen Ralchev, Prof. Todor Yalmov, and a number of the department’s lecturers, thanked the Ambassador for accepting their invitation to give   this lecture to the students, stressing their desire for permanent communication with the embassy.
